Komodo National Park fees and rules in 2026: the ticket, the package line and the 1,000-a-day limit

Updated 4 November 2026

Foreign visitors pay IDR 250,000 per day for a Komodo National Park ticket under PP 36/2024. Since 1 April 2026 the park also caps entry at 1,000 visitors a day. The park authority has not explained how the cap is shared among operators. Checked 4 November 2026.

The ticket: what PP 36/2024 sets

The legal basis is Government Regulation 36 of 2024 on non-tax state revenue at the forestry ministry. Antara's Kupang bureau reported it on 26 October 2024, and the tariffs took effect on 30 October 2024. The regulation replaced the 2014 rule.

For foreign visitors the ticket is IDR 250,000 per person per day, the same on weekdays and holidays. For Indonesian citizens it is IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 on holidays. Antara says the ticket covers trekking, snorkelling and wildlife observation.

Some activities are priced apart. Diving is a separate ticket per person per activity, and drone flying carries its own fee per unit per day, both listed in the same report. The report also notes that boat tariffs did not change.

Our check date for these figures is 4 November 2026. Tariffs of this kind are set by regulation and can be revised, so read them as the rate in force on that date.

The package line on a Komodo Explorer quote

The ticket is one part of what a guest pays at the park. On a Komodo Explorer quote the park costs appear as one package line per guest and per trip type. It combines the government entrance ticket with ranger charges and local levies, and is paid beside the boat fare, not inside it.

That is why a boat price and a park cost never add up in your head the first time. The fare on Raja Bintang 01, for instance, is IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for the whole boat on 3D2N, and the package line is separate. The park fees page of this site lists the package by trip type; this article does not repeat the table, since that page is the one we update.

Two things the package does not change. The foreign ticket is charged per day, so a longer trip counts more park days. And the package does not include a drone permit, which is a separate item.

The daily limit of 1,000 visitors

Antara English reported on 15 April 2026 that the government set a limit of 1,000 visitors a day, about 365,000 a year, in force from 1 April 2026. It covers Padar, Rinca and Komodo islands plus 23 dive sites. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced it.

The stated reason is pressure on the habitat. The same report counts 429,509 visitors in 2025 against a carrying capacity of 366,108 a year, so the park ran over its own figure.

Operators were warned earlier. TTG Asia reported on 20 February 2026 that the cap would apply across the park attractions, with a trial from March, and that operators who sell trips in advance feared that a guest could arrive to find the day full. The East Nusa Tenggara chapter of the travel association ASITA said the cap added operational complexity.

How the limit works, and what nobody has said

Floresa reported on 7 April 2026 that visitors book through an online system called SiOra, which is meant to refuse reservations once the day is full. During the trial it failed to do so at least once, and the cap was exceeded. Payment processing also had problems, and the park authority called 2026 an adjustment year.

The sources disagree on when the trial began: Floresa says January, TTG Asia says March. We give both and choose neither.

What the park authority has not yet explained:

  • How the 1,000 places are divided among individual visitors, operators and agents.
  • Whether the limit applies equally to every site or differs by location.
  • What happens to an operator whose guests are refused at the gate.
  • Whether a private charter is treated differently from an open trip.

Until those are answered, treat the mechanism as unclear and the figure as certain.

What this means for your dates

Book early, and ask in writing. A fixed date with a boat is easier to protect than a late request. Ask us, before you pay, how your park days are handled, and we answer in writing.

Know the daily cost. Count the park days in your trip. The package line on your quote is per guest and trip type, and the foreign ticket inside it is charged per day.

Expect stops to change. Padar, Rinca and Komodo are inside the limit, and weather can also change the order. Itineraries are tentative, and the captain decides with the weather.

Our guarantee has a boundary. If the harbour or the park authority orders the boat to stay in port, you get a phinisi of the same or higher class on the same date at no extra charge, or refund in full within 2 days. A quota already full on the day is a different case, and the park authority has not said how it would be treated. Ask us, and we put the answer in writing.

FAQ

What does a foreign visitor pay for the park ticket in 2026?

IDR 250,000 per person per day under PP 36/2024, in force since 30 October 2024, checked on 4 November 2026. It covers trekking, wildlife observation and snorkelling. Diving and drone flights are priced separately. A trip of several days counts several park days.

Is Komodo Island closed in 2026?

Not for the year. Entry is limited to 1,000 visitors a day since 1 April 2026, and weather suspended sailings several times from December 2025, as TTG Asia reported. Check dates with us before you book.

Is the park fee included in the boat price?

No. On a Komodo Explorer quote, the park shows up as a package line per guest and per trip type, paid beside the boat fare. It bundles the government ticket with ranger and local levies. Drone permits and a guide on a charter are separate again.

Does the 1,000-a-day limit affect a private charter?

It applies to the park as a whole. The park authority has not said whether a private charter is treated differently from an open trip, or how places are shared among operators. Ask us about your dates, and we answer in writing.
