Two families, one boat, six doors

Updated 4 November 2026

A Komodo private boat for two families works well at ten guests, who pay IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) each for three days on the whole of Raja Bintang 01. Children aged 0 to 2 travel free with a parent on open trips, and the full price applies from 3. Four cabins have their own bathroom.

Ask for the family plan

Who sleeps behind which door

Two families of four to six fit the boat with doors to spare. Up on the upper deck, the Master cabin has a queen bed plus a single. The Deluxe cabin has a queen bed. Each has a private balcony and bathroom, and they suit the two sets of parents, one door each.

Children sleep in the Private cabins on the main deck. Each has a queen bed plus a single sofa bed, an ocean view and a bathroom of its own, so a parent and one child, or two children, fit comfortably. The two Sharing cabins take up to four guests each on two double beds and share a bathroom, which suits older cousins in a group of four.

Grandparents sit best near the main deck, in a Private cabin. Four cabins have their own bathroom and two share one; that is the arithmetic a party of ten has to work with.

The cabins that suit children

Beds are the real question, so here they are: queen plus single in the Master and Private cabins, a queen in the Deluxe, two doubles in each Sharing cabin. If you need a cot, a child seat or other children's equipment, ask us first, and we will tell you in writing what the crew can supply.

On an open-trip seat, children from 0 to 2 travel free with a parent or guardian, and from 3 the full seat price applies. On the whole boat the fare is one figure for 1 to 16 guests. Tell us the ages and we confirm in writing how very small children count against the 16.

There are 30 life jackets on board, and snorkelling gear is included. Ask us about life-jacket sizes for the youngest guests before you pay.

A route children can keep up with

The three-day route has stops of different effort. On day one, Kelor means a short, steep hill. Kalong is a sunset watched from the boat, with no landing. Pink Beach is a shallow snorkel on day two. Those three suit most children who swim, and none needs more than a good pair of shoes and a hat.

Padar is the steep one. The climb to the main viewpoint takes about 25 to 45 minutes, and the steps are loose in places. Plan for children of six and over to walk it and for younger ones to be carried. Treat it as optional, and let one parent stay with the boat at anchor.

On Komodo Island or Rinca, rangers lead every walk and the shorter trail suits families. Sightings are never promised, and children should hear that before the walk, not after it.

For a child who is afraid of boats

A frightened child changes the plan, and the plan can change. The whole boat is yours, so nobody else sets the pace. The shortest route is the two-day, one-night trip, at IDR 69,000,000 (≈ USD 4,233) for the whole boat, with calm stops first and an early return arranged with the captain.

A speedboat day trip is not sold with this boat. If you want one, ask us, and we say plainly whether it can be arranged. We would rather tell you that now than promise it and fail.

Tell us the child's age and what frightens them. We pass it to the crew, and we write down for you what they can do: shorter legs between stops, a quiet anchorage, a stay on board while others walk.

Grandparents on board

Grandparents are welcome, and the answer is a mix. Boarding uses steps and a gangway, and the walk on Kelor, Komodo Island and Padar is uneven ground. There is no lift, and there is no wheelchair access. Padar is a climb of about 25 to 45 minutes up and 20 to 30 minutes down, and walking poles help.

The easy days are on deck: the sun decks, the chill area, the sunset at Kalong. A grandparent who skips Padar misses one stop and keeps the rest. Tell us about any heart or mobility condition before you book. We say plainly if the route is wrong for them.

Splitting among ten

Two families of five pay IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) per guest for the three-day route, which is the whole-boat fare of IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) divided by ten. If each family pays half, that sum is yours to do, and the table below gives the other head counts.

Apart from the fare: the park package, the guide and documentation on a private charter, and any extra we quote. We take a deposit of 50 percent and the balance 30 days before departure.

The two-day route is the cheaper boat if the budget is tight, at IDR 69,000,000 (≈ USD 4,233) for the whole boat. It is also the gentler first trip for children, with fewer long days. Ask which of the two fits your dates and we put the answer in writing.

FAQ

What are the child prices, ages and bed setups?

On open-trip seats, children aged 0 to 2 travel free with a parent or guardian, and from 3 the full price applies. On a private charter the fare is one figure for the boat. Beds are queen plus single in Master and Private cabins, a queen in Deluxe, two doubles in each Sharing cabin.

Is there a short private trip for a child who is afraid of boats?

The two-day, one-night route is the shortest, and a private charter puts the whole boat in your hands, so the pace is yours too. A speedboat day trip is not sold with this boat; ask us. Any calm stops or early return the crew can arrange, we set down in writing.

Is the boat suitable for grandparents?

Many grandparents enjoy the deck days, and the Padar climb is optional. Boarding uses steps, and there is no lift. Tell us about any heart or mobility condition before you book, and we say plainly whether the route fits.

How do two families split the cost?

The whole-boat fare is one figure for 1 to 16 guests. Two families of five pay IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) per guest on the three-day route, so each family's share is the sum of its members. The park package and any extras are added apart, in writing.
