A cabin seat or the whole phinisi: the arithmetic

Updated 4 November 2026

Komodo whole boat or single cabin: all of Raja Bintang 01 costs IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for up to 16 guests, while a seat starts at IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) per person. Guide and documentation come with the seat, not with the charter. Two guests alone pay IDR 39,000,000 (≈ USD 2,393) each on the whole boat.

Ask which suits you

A seat or the hull

Two products share one boat. The open trip sells seats: you buy a cabin, two guests to a cabin, on a Monday or Friday start, and you travel with other parties. The charter sells the hull: you buy the whole boat for the dates you choose, and nobody else is aboard.

The list lines them up on dates, price basis, guide and documentation, company on board and flexibility; the table under it adds nights, the starting price and the Padar sunrise. In short, a seat is cheaper for a small party and the charter is cheaper per head for a large one, and somewhere in between the two cross over.

  • Dates. Open trip: a Monday or Friday start on the 3D2N route. Private charter: your dates, on the 2D1N, 3D2N or 4D3N route.
  • Price basis. Open trip: per person, from IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291). Private charter: per boat, IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for 3D2N, 1 to 16 guests.
  • Guide and documentation. Open trip: included, with drone, camera and GoPro. Private charter: not included, quoted on request.
  • Company on board. Open trip: other parties share the boat. Private charter: only your party.
  • Flexibility. Open trip: fixed dates and a shared route. Private charter: dates and route agreed with you, and the captain decides with the weather.

Suits: the seat for one to four guests who can use a Monday or a Friday, the hull for a party that needs its own dates or its own deck.

Where the boat starts to cost less per head

Eight guests on the whole boat pay IDR 9,750,000 (≈ USD 598) each, which is more than any single seat on the open trip, a Private cabin at IDR 6,750,000 (≈ USD 414) included. From twelve guests the picture turns: IDR 6,500,000 (≈ USD 399) each is less than a Private seat at IDR 6,750,000 (≈ USD 414), and less than a Deluxe or Master seat.

Against a Sharing seat the whole boat never wins, not even at sixteen. A seat at IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) stays below IDR 4,880,000 (≈ USD 299).

The sums are not like for like. The guide and the documentation sit inside the seat price and outside the charter, so a fair comparison adds a quote for a guide to the charter side. Ask us for that quote, and the answer comes in writing.

Why a pair is better off with a seat

Two guests on the whole boat pay IDR 39,000,000 (≈ USD 2,393) each. The same two guests in a Deluxe cabin pay IDR 7,750,000 (≈ USD 475) each, with a private balcony, a guide and drone, camera and GoPro documentation included.

The only reason for a pair to charter is privacy: the deck to yourselves, the dates of your choice, nobody at the table. That is a real reason, and a priced one. We would rather say the number than have you find it in the invoice.

If your pair wants a balcony and a quiet table, the Master or Deluxe seat gets most of the way there at a fraction of the fare.

Shared route, private door

On the open trip the cabin is yours and the boat is shared. The route is the same for everyone aboard, the meals are at one table, and the dates are Monday and Friday starts only.

Seats are priced per person, two to a cabin. Travelling alone, you pay the same per-person price. Before you pay we confirm in writing who you would share with, or whether you take the cabin alone.

A private door means your own door and bathroom, in four of the six cabins. It does not mean the deck.

Side by side, in the fine print

What is the same on both: the boat, the crew of 6, the meals, snacks, fruit, water, coffee and tea, the snorkelling gear, the transfers. The park package is quoted beside both fares, and the replacement-boat guarantee applies to both: equal or higher class on the same date at no extra charge, or a full refund within 2 days.

What differs: the guide and the documentation are part of the seat, and the charter leaves them out. The charter sails on your dates, and the open trip sails on the scheduled ones.

Only whole-boat and seat bookings exist for this boat. No speedboat day charter and no one-way fare is published.

FAQ

What is the difference between an open trip and a private charter in Komodo?

On an open trip you buy a cabin seat, priced per person, on a scheduled Monday or Friday start, with guide and documentation included and other parties aboard. On a private charter you take the whole boat on your own dates for up to 16 guests, with nobody else aboard and the guide and documentation quoted separately.

How much is a private speedboat day charter around Komodo?

Raja Bintang 01 does not sell a speedboat day charter, and no day price is published for this boat. Ask us for a speedboat quote on WhatsApp. We answer in writing with what is available and what it costs, and nothing is quoted before you ask.

Is a one-way trip between Bajo and Lombok priced differently each way?

This boat runs Labuan Bajo round trips only. There is no one-way fare and no Lombok leg: every trip starts and ends in Labuan Bajo. If you need to continue to Lombok after the trip, ask us and we tell you in writing what we can arrange.

How do two families or a group of friends split the cost of a whole boat?

Divide the one fare by the number of guests. Ten guests on the three-day route pay IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) each, before the park package and tips. Families can split by cabin instead, so the Master pays more and a Sharing cabin pays less.
