Sixty questions, in ten groups

Updated 4 November 2026

Komodo private boat FAQ for Raja Bintang 01: 60 questions in ten groups, each answered with a number or a plain statement. The whole boat costs IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for three days and two nights. Ask on WhatsApp for anything missing.

Ask a question

Ten groups, ordered by what guests ask first

The questions below run in ten groups, from the boat and its price to sharing a boat with strangers. They are ordered by what guests ask first: the fare, the booking terms, the cabins, the food, the route, the sea, the park, safety, getting to Labuan Bajo and the open trip.

Each answer gives a number, a fare or a plain statement. Dates and fees were checked on 4 November 2026.

Questions that need a written quote

A few questions cannot be answered with a figure on a page. A price for 2027 is one: it is confirmed in writing before any payment. A guide and documentation on a private charter is another, along with a private speedboat day, a diet beyond what we list, drinks beyond water, coffee and tea, and any extra such as a dinner or a decoration.

A party of more than 16 on a private charter needs a second boat, and that is quoted separately. For all of these, write to us on WhatsApp with the date and the head count. We reply with the answer in writing, and nothing is added to the fare without it.

Booking, payment and cancellation

What are the deposit and the balance date?

The deposit is 50 percent and confirms the booking. The balance is due 30 days before sailing. If the date is nearer than that, we ask for full payment at booking. The balance can also be paid on departure day itself, in cash or on the card machine at 3 percent.

What happens if I cancel or move the date?

Cancel 60 days or more ahead and 50 percent is refunded. From 30 to 59 days, 25 percent. Under 30 days, nothing. To move a date, 30 days ahead is free, 14 to 29 days costs IDR 500,000, and under 14 days counts as a cancellation. Refunds follow within 2 days.

How can I pay from abroad, and what do the fees add?

Use a card payment link, which adds 3 percent, PayPal at 7.2 percent, or a transfer by Wise or Revolut. A card machine in Labuan Bajo adds 3 percent. QRIS and Alipay also work. Your own bank may add charges that we cannot see. The invoice shows each fee as a line.

Can I book last minute, for tomorrow or today?

Yes, while seats remain, but the latest practical day is the day before departure, because park tickets and the passenger list must be registered first. For close dates, cabins are limited and we ask for full payment. Send us the date and the number of guests, and we check what is free.

What happens if the boat is replaced or cancelled?

If the boat cannot sail, we provide a boat of the same or higher class on the same date at no extra charge. If you prefer, we refund in full within 2 days. A closure ordered by the harbour master is handled the same way.

Is Komodo Explorer a real company, and where are the reviews?

We are PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363, with an office in Labuan Bajo. Reviews of our booking service are on our Google and Tripadvisor profiles. No guest review of Raja Bintang 01 itself is published yet, and we do not borrow others. Ask for our invoice before you pay.

How do I know a payment request is genuine?

A genuine request comes with an invoice from us and from one of our two WhatsApp numbers, CS 1 and CS 2. Pay only into the account named on that invoice and never into a personal account. If a request arrives without an invoice, pause and write to us.

Can I pay the balance on the departure day?

Yes. The standard terms stay the same: a 50% deposit confirms the date and the balance is due 30 days before departure, but you may also pay the balance in Labuan Bajo on the departure day, in cash or by card on the EDC machine. Card payment link 3%, PayPal 7.2%, EDC 3%; your issuing bank may add its own charges.

Cabins and sleeping

What is the difference between Master, Deluxe, Private and Sharing cabins?

The Master (upper deck) has a queen bed, a single, a sofa, a balcony and a private bathroom. The Deluxe has a queen bed, a balcony and a private bathroom. The two Private cabins have a queen plus a single sofa bed and a private bathroom. The two Sharing cabins have two double beds and a shared bathroom. No other cabin type exists on this boat.

Which cabins have a private bathroom?

Four: the Master, the Deluxe and the two Private cabins. The two Sharing cabins share one bathroom between them. We say it plainly because it explains the price gap, and because it is the question guests ask most before they book.

Which cabins have a balcony?

The Master and the Deluxe each have a private balcony with an ocean view, and both have a private bathroom. The other four cabins have no balcony.

Is there hot water, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a window?

Air conditioning is in every cabin, and the Master, Deluxe and Private cabins have an ocean view. Hot water and Wi-Fi: ask us before booking, and we confirm both in writing.

Is there a hairdryer or a mini fridge in the cabin?

A refrigerator and a water dispenser are on board for the guests' use, and plug sockets are in the cabins. For anything else in the cabin, ask us and we put your question to the boat.

Can friends who want separate beds fit in?

There is no twin cabin. The Master and the Private cabins each have a queen bed plus a single, and the Sharing cabins have two double beds each, which can sleep up to four. Friends who want separate beds fit best in a Sharing cabin or in a Master with a single bed.

Food, drink and the galley

What meals are included?

Meals, snacks and fruit are included, with free-flow mineral water, coffee and tea. A welcome drink and a cold towel greet you on arrival. For other drinks, ask us before the trip, and anything extra is quoted in writing.

What about vegetarian, halal and allergies?

Tell us at booking and we pass your needs to the crew in writing. We confirm what the boat can do before you pay. We make no claim of a halal-certified or allergy-safe kitchen. For a severe allergy, ask for written confirmation and carry your own medication.

Can we bring or buy alcohol on board?

Ask us before the trip. Anything beyond water, coffee and tea that the boat can supply is quoted in writing, and a rule on bringing your own is confirmed the same way.

Can we do a barbecue on the boat or the beach?

A barbecue is an optional extra, arranged on request. We check with the crew and quote it separately. Give us the date, the head count and the place you prefer, and you have the price in writing before you commit.

Can we choose the menu?

There is no fixed menu to choose from. Tell us your wishes and diets at booking. We pass them to the crew and let you know in writing what they can do. We do not invent dishes or promise a particular meal in advance.

Getting to Labuan Bajo and first time in Indonesia

Can I take a boat from Bali to Komodo, or is there no start but Labuan Bajo?

Not on this boat. Raja Bintang 01 sails from Labuan Bajo and returns there, and there is no Bali or Lombok departure. Fly to Komodo Airport instead, and spend the night before sailing in Labuan Bajo.

Can you arrange a fast private speedboat from Maumere to Labuan Bajo?

A speedboat transfer from Maumere is not part of Raja Bintang 01's programme. Ask us on WhatsApp whether a separate transfer can be quoted, and give us the date, the head count and the luggage. Any quote reaches you in writing before you pay.

When should I arrive in Labuan Bajo before sailing?

The day before. Pickup on an open trip begins at 09:30, and a flight on the same morning leaves no margin. A night in Labuan Bajo also lets you buy cash, sunscreen and tablets, which the islands do not sell.

Do I need a visa for Indonesia?

It depends on your passport, and the rules and fees change. Many passports qualify for a visa on arrival, others must apply online first, and a few enter visa-free for a short stay. Check the official immigration portal before you book flights. We last checked this on 4 November 2026.

How much cash should I carry, and are there cash machines?

Cash machines stand by the harbour and at the airport, and none are inside the park or on the islands. Draw rupiah before you board. Carry small notes for tips and for park charges quoted in cash. Hotels and charters accept cards, sometimes with a surcharge.

Where should I stay before and after the trip?

Near the marina or the town centre if you want the harbour close. On the hills if you want a view and accept a longer drive. Our partner hotels are on the hotels page; for your dates, ask us. Pickup from the hotel is included.

Open-trip seats, solo travellers and sharing a boat

I am travelling solo. What do I pay, and who would I share with?

Open-trip seats are priced per person, assuming two guests to a cabin. What you pay alone, and whether you share a cabin with another traveller, is settled in writing for your date, before any payment. Write to us with the Monday or Friday you prefer.

What is the difference between an open trip and a private charter?

The open trip sells seats by the cabin, per person, on fixed Monday and Friday dates, with guide and documentation included. With the private charter your party has the whole boat, for 1 to 16 guests at one fare, on dates that suit you, without guide or documentation.

Which cabin is best on an open trip?

For two guests who want a balcony, the Deluxe. For a third guest or the upper deck, the Master. For a private bathroom without a balcony, a Private cabin. For the lowest fare, a Sharing cabin and its shared bathroom. Seats start at IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) per person.

How do two families or a group of friends split the cost of a whole boat?

Divide the fare by the number of guests. On the three-day route, 12 guests pay IDR 6,500,000 (≈ USD 399) each and 16 guests pay IDR 4,880,000 (≈ USD 299) each. Agree who pays the deposit, and send us each person's name for the park list. One invoice covers the boat.

Can we celebrate a birthday or anniversary on board?

Yes. A decoration, a special dinner, a photographer and a barbecue can be arranged on request, each quoted in writing first. On a private charter the whole boat, up to 16 guests, is yours. Tell us the date and the occasion, and we say what the crew can do.

Park fees and permits

Is the Komodo National Park fee included, and how much cash should I bring?

No. The park fee sits outside the fare. The official ticket is IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, and our quote adds a park package line with ranger and local levies. The quote says what is paid in cash on the day. Bring small notes for that and for tips.

What does the park package line cover?

The line bundles the government entrance ticket with ranger and local levies, stated per trip type and per guest. It is not the government ticket by itself, and it sits outside the boat fare. Ask us for the line for your route, and we list each part in writing.

Can I fly a drone in the park?

Only with a park permit, secured before the trip, plus a daily fee. A standard ticket does not cover it. Ask us for the figure in writing. We give no advice on where or when to fly, and we promise no drone footage.

Is a guide or documentation included?

On the open trip, yes: a tour guide and documentation with drone, camera and GoPro are included. On a private charter, neither is included. Both can be added on request, quoted separately as photos, edited photos or a short video. Drone flights need a park permit and a daily fee.

Can I dive, or is it snorkelling only? Is gear included?

Snorkelling gear is included. Diving is not part of this trip; if some of your party dive, ask us before you plan, and we quote it separately.

Routes and timing

Is the trip Labuan Bajo to Labuan Bajo, or one way to Lombok?

Labuan Bajo to Labuan Bajo. Every route of Raja Bintang 01 starts and ends at the harbour in Labuan Bajo. There is no Lombok leg and no crossing. Plan your flights in and out of Komodo Airport, with the trip ending between 12:00 and 12:30 on the last day.

Which stops are on the three-day route, and is it Komodo Island or only Rinca?

Day one: Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong. Day two: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. Day three: Sebayur or Siaba, then back. Komodo and Rinca are different islands; the dragon walk is on Komodo Island, or on Rinca when the day plan calls for it. The plan is tentative and depends on the weather.

What time does the trip end, and when can I fly home?

The trip ends between 12:00 and 12:30 on the last day, back at the harbour in Labuan Bajo. Book a flight home after 13:00, or the next day. A private charter can be timed around your flight; tell us when you book.

What time and where is pickup, and how is it confirmed?

On an open trip, pickup is from your hotel or Komodo Airport between 09:30 and 12:00. For a private charter, the time follows your flights. We confirm the exact time and place in writing on WhatsApp before the date.

Can pickup on a private charter be later than 09:30?

Yes. Private charter times are set with your flights, so a later pickup can be asked for. Tell us your flight time at booking, and the written quote shows the pickup time and what it changes in the day plan.

Can a one-day private charter cover Padar, Komodo and Pink Beach?

Raja Bintang 01 has no one-day charter. Her shortest private route is the 2D1N. For a one-day plan, ask us for a written proposal on a speedboat instead, with the stops you want.

Which days does the open trip run, and is my date free?

The three-day open trip starts on Monday & Friday. The next scheduled date is Friday, 6 November 2026, and 8 dates are on the calendar. Seats are confirmed live on WhatsApp, so a date on the page is a schedule and not a guarantee. Write to us with your date.

Safety, health and children

What safety equipment is on board?

Raja Bintang 01 carries a life raft, 30 life jackets, 4 ring buoys, 8 fire extinguishers, GPS and AIS, with radios and a compass. Ask us if you need a detail confirmed in writing.

Is a Komodo boat trip safe?

We make no claim of perfect safety. We list the gear on board, and the captain decides each day's stops and anchorage with the weather. The harbour master can close sailing, and we never sail against a closure.

Can children join, and what are the child prices and ages?

Children aged 0 to 2 travel free with a parent or guardian. From age 3, the full fare applies. Park fees for children are confirmed on your quote. Tell us the ages and we advise on cabins, since the Master and Private cabins have a single or sofa bed.

Is there a short private trip for a child who is afraid of boats?

Raja Bintang 01's shortest private route is the 2D1N. For a nervous child, a short private speedboat day may suit better, because the route and timing can be shortened and the stops kept nearby. That is not offered on this boat; ask us for a written speedboat quote.

Do you also rent a private speedboat for one day?

Not on this boat. Raja Bintang 01 is a phinisi sold by the whole boat for 2D1N, 3D2N and 4D3N, or by the cabin on the open trip. For a private speedboat day, ask us for a quote on a separate boat, with the date, the head count and the stops you want.

Do I need travel insurance?

It is recommended, with medical cover, and we cannot book it for you. Hospitals in the region may ask for payment upfront, and evacuation takes hours. Insurance is not mandatory for the trip, but we advise it for every guest.

Season, weather and the sea

When is the best time to go?

The dry season, from April to November, gives the calmest sea. April to June and October to November are the clearest and calmest. July and August are windier and busier. December to March is wet and rougher. No month guarantees a sighting.

Is it safe after weather warnings or earthquakes, and what if sailing is closed?

The harbour master decides whether boats may sail, and we never sail against a closure. If the boat cannot go, we provide a boat of the same or higher class on the same date at no extra charge, or refund in full within 2 days. After any warning, write to us the same day.

Where does the boat sleep at night?

At anchor. The captain chooses the anchorage with the weather, and makes that choice on the day. The tentative plan ends the first day off Kalong, but the bay depends on the wind and the swell.

Will I be seasick on a 24 m phinisi?

We cannot predict it. The boat spends much of the day at anchor, and calm months help. Bring tablets or patches from home, because the pharmacies in Labuan Bajo stock only a limited range, and ask your doctor for advice. Tell us if you are concerned, and we say what we know about the cabins.

Is Komodo Island closed in 2026?

Not for the year. Short weather closures do happen, and Komodo and Padar were shut to boats for a few days in August 2026, while Rinca stayed open. Park rules were checked on 4 November 2026. Tell us your dates and we confirm what is open.

The boat and its price

How much does it cost to charter Raja Bintang 01 for the whole boat?

The whole boat costs IDR 69,000,000 (≈ USD 4,233) for two days and one night, IDR 78,000,000 (≈ USD 4,785) for three days and two nights, and IDR 85,000,000 (≈ USD 5,215) for four days and three nights. Each fare covers 1 to 16 guests with fuel inside. The park package, the guide and the documentation are separate.

Is the price per boat or per person, and does it change with group size?

Per boat. Each route has one fare for 1 to 16 guests, so it does not change with group size. The figure per person is simple division: on the three-day route, 8 guests pay IDR 9,750,000 (≈ USD 598) each and 16 guests pay IDR 4,880,000 (≈ USD 299) each. Seats on the open trip are priced per person instead.

Are tax and fuel inside the price?

Yes. Fuel and tax are inside the rounded fare, which is all-in as quoted, with no separate tax line added later. Outside the fare: the park package, crew tips, flights, hotels, personal expenses and drinks beyond water, coffee and tea. On a private charter the guide and documentation are also separate.

How many guests fit, and what is the small print on 19?

Sixteen guests on standard beds. The figure of 19 applies only to the open-trip cabin plans with extra beds, and never to a private charter, where the limit is 16. A party of more than 16 on a charter needs a second boat. Tell us your number and we plan the beds.

How many crew are on board?

Six crew sail with Raja Bintang 01. They belong to the boat and handle the sailing, the anchorage and the meals. If you need to know who is captain on your date, ask, and once the crew is set we confirm it in writing.

Is the boat new, and how old is it?

Age and condition matter to some guests. If they matter to you, tell us when you ask for a quote, and we send recent photographs of the boat with it, so that you judge her condition yourself.

How much are the Komodo National Park fees with KEXI?

KEXI quotes the park as one package per guest: 3D2N: IDR 650,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest; 4D3N: IDR 750,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest. It bundles the government entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024) with the ranger fee and local levies, and is paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included.
