Master, Deluxe, Private or Sharing: which cabin suits whom

Updated 4 November 2026

Choosing a cabin on a Komodo phinisi comes down to bathroom, balcony and bed. On Raja Bintang 01 the three-day open-trip seat costs IDR 8,750,000 (≈ USD 537) in the Master, IDR 7,750,000 (≈ USD 475) in the Deluxe, IDR 6,750,000 (≈ USD 414) in a Private and IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) in a Sharing cabin, per person, two guests to a cabin.

Check a cabin

Four questions to ask first

Start with the bathroom. Four cabins have a private one: the Master, the Deluxe and the two Private cabins. The two Sharing cabins share a bathroom, and that single fact explains most of the price gap.

Next comes the balcony. Only the Master and the Deluxe have one. Then the bed: a queen in the Deluxe, a queen plus a single in the Master and in each Private cabin, two double beds in each Sharing cabin.

The fare comes last, because by then the choice is made. If you are still undecided, move one step down the price list only when the lost feature is one you would not miss on the third evening.

If you want a balcony

The Master sits on the upper deck and sleeps two or three: a queen bed, a single, a sofa, an ocean view and a private bathroom. A third guest pays IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291). This is the cabin where the late afternoon at Kalong is best spent.

The Deluxe is the second balcony cabin, with a queen bed, an ocean view and a private bathroom, for two guests. For a third person in the Deluxe, ask us before you plan.

The difference between them is therefore the single bed, the sofa and the place on the boat. If you are two, the Deluxe covers the same ground for less.

A door, a bathroom, or the lowest fare

The two Private cabins offer a queen bed plus a single sofa bed, an ocean view, air conditioning and their own bathroom for IDR 6,750,000 (≈ USD 414) per person. A third guest pays IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276). Suits: couples who want a bathroom but not a balcony, and a parent with a child.

The two Sharing cabins have two double beds each, hold two to four guests and cost IDR 4,750,000 (≈ USD 291) per person. Suits: two couples or four friends who do not mind sharing a bathroom with the other Sharing cabin.

That is the price of the lowest fare: a bathroom you share. Nothing else about the boat changes between the cabins, as the crew, the route and the meals are the same.

What all six cabins have in common

Every cabin has air conditioning, plug sockets and towels. The welcome drink, the cold towel on arrival and the disposable slippers are for all guests. The Master, the Deluxe and the Private cabins have an ocean view.

For drinks beyond water, coffee and tea, ask us before the trip and we quote anything extra in writing.

If the swell worries you

No cabin is free of motion in a swell. If this matters to you, tell us when you book, and we suggest a cabin for your party.

Public health advice for a boat is simple: stay near the middle, look at the horizon, take air, eat lightly and ask a pharmacist before you buy tablets. Pharmacies in Labuan Bajo have a limited choice, so bring what suits you from home. Remedies are a matter for your doctor, not for us.

FAQ

Which cabin is best on an open trip: Master, Deluxe, Private or Sharing?

For two guests who want a balcony, the Deluxe is the best value. For three guests or for the upper deck, the Master. For a private bathroom without a balcony, a Private cabin. For the lowest fare, a Sharing cabin and its shared bathroom. The choice follows your bathroom, balcony and budget, in that order.

Which cabin is best if I get seasick?

No cabin is free of motion in a swell. Tell us about your concern when you book, and we suggest a cabin for your party. The standard advice is to stay near the middle of the boat and watch the horizon, and your doctor can advise on remedies.

Can a solo traveller take a cabin?

A solo guest can ask for a seat on a Monday or Friday departure. Seats are priced per person on the basis of two guests to a cabin. What you pay alone, or whether you share a cabin, is confirmed in writing for your date before you pay.

What is the difference between Master and Deluxe?

Both have a private balcony, an ocean view and a private bathroom. The Master sits on the upper deck, adds a single bed and a sofa, and can hold a third guest. The Deluxe has a queen bed for two guests.
